Re: Special military operation, what is it good for? – politicalbetting.com
The tactic of the new Chief of Staff at No.10 and presumably the thrust of Dowden's speech is to try to create those "fundamental differences" because the Conservatives probably believe they will always lose in a battle between two high spending high taxation social democratic parties. We see @Big_G_NorthWales also trying… -
Re: Starmer’s speech gets a good reception – politicalbetting.com
'Beyond the correct rate of taxation, however, lie the much deeper problems of the country. For years, regardless of who was in power, government policy has been to import cheap unskilled or semi-skilled labor' This bit is true. Under Blair and Brown, this was open and explicit for both EU and non-EU migration. Under… -
Re: If this polling doesn’t change then hello PM Starmer – politicalbetting.com
Rather depressingly, the sky is grey and gloomy. I was up and ready to go early enough to catch the (supposed) train back to Vilajuïga, then bus or walk to Garriguella, and on to the tortoise sanctuary. But their sign told me that if I came on a cloudy day not to expect to see tortoises, and not to complain! So I decided… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Even Tory leavers are giving Starmer positive approval ratings
I really don't know. I see no good answers. I guess you could remove the 0% VAT rate and charge 20% for *everything* and couple it with removing *all* pension tax benefits. That gets your tax take up in a *moderately* equitable way. On spending, can't touch NHS obvs, ditch some of the dubious capital stuff like HS2,… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Just three weeks to go and two new polls put Trump back in
A couple of US political developments today. Firstly the line up for Thursday's GOP debate has been announced. 7 in the main debate, 4 in the happy hour debate. The big news is that Carly Fiorina is back in the happy hour debate. The other news is more troubling for Hillary Clinton. The news networks are reporting that the… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Alastair Meeks on How Conservative Leavers could gift Labou
I agree with Sean's comments downthread. We are in unprecedented times, and I certainly don't think slower economic growth following a Leave vote will be blamed on the Conservatives to Labour's benefit, particularly under JEREMY CORBYN. You could just as easily make a case that the Great British Public - in their infinite… -
Re: The Fall of The West – politicalbetting.com
Your comment - and a fair few of those before it - highlight the struggle that must have been going on as Casino wrote his lead, seeking to stake out higher ground than he normally manages to occupy. Interestingly, his own position (evidenced by his posts, rather than the lead) as an anti-woke nationalist owes much to the… -

Papers like the mail are making out it’s all very meaningful. At least MV 2.5 will be interesting to see how many Spartans are still standing, how many grand wizards are still with them, and how many Labour are huddled in there with them. Or maybe that won’t be... wait for it... indicative at all if it cannot really be a… -

You have to be careful about that: mice and rats chewing cables can start fires. Although not in the strange way I heard of of a few years ago. A thatched cottage had a fire that started in the roof. There was no means of starting a fire at the relevant point - no cabling or access - and there had been no bonfires or… -
Re: Lab’s by-election record has been mediocre – politicalbetting.com
Small hours reflections on Trump. There's another set of Indictments (the fifth) being worked on in Arizona, for his and his teams's attempts to steal the 2020 Election there. Given that parts of his former team have already started to peel away, and some are cooperating with the various prosecutions, or are testifying in… -

Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » CON + LAB slump to record aggregate low in tonight’s Lord A
I have had 26 robocalls today, and also a dozen calls that didn't leave messages. Voting tomorrow! It's been an odd campaign, one of the least covered I can recall (except for the 24 hour news stations). It's difficult for the Democrats - the economy is not feeling good, there is no legislative achievement to run on as… -

She is definitely the winner from Thursday's debates. She has had huge exposure and been talked up by all the networks. She sticks to facts, chooses her words carefully, is in command of her brief and is not intimidated by anyone. I think she will receive a substantial boost from Thursday. Can she beat Walker, Bush, Rubio… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Jeremy Corbyn is becoming a very confident and assured politic
Dot Commons: George Osborne's historic affiliations with the Conservative party have not always been apparent since he stood down as an MP. At times, it has seemed as if he was using his new job as editor of the Evening Standard to wage a personal vendetta against Theresa May's and her government. Barely a day goes by when… -
Re: The French election markets are too confident – politicalbetting.com
Afternoon all :) A lovely afternoon in East London - I drop in for a quick perusal and it's all about the "I" word. The problem with the immigration debate is it's a jungle of nuances, misconceptions, differing experiences and goes beyond simple economics to touch on deep-rooted cultural and social attitudes and mores. In… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Boris Johnson might just be a worthy successor to the UK Prime
When clearing out my mum's house we came across the letter that my Gran got. It had her name wrongly spelled, was a pre-printed form into which someone had typed the words "accidentally killed" in the appropriate space telling her what had happened to her husband and father of her 3 young boys. It was oddly moving and made…
