Re: A personal note on the NHS – politicalbetting.com
One of the advantages of working from home is that we've now been able to move closer to my wife's family (we're currently staying with her parents and are looking for a house within about an hour at most). This is the first time in decades that I've had a job that has been within easy travelling distance of family. This… -

Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Tonight’s local By-Election Preview : April 10th 2013 (t-22
Margaret Thatcher's death has dealt a further blow to already strained relations between Downing Street and the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, after the prime minister ditched both past precedent and a long-agreed plan to demand Wednesday's recall of parliament. The seven-and-a-half-hour session of Commons… -
Re: Labour’s fifty year and counting woman problem – politicalbetting.com
Right to buy had bugger all to do with subsequent housing issues. Housing issues are caused by the fact that housing construction has been a small fraction of what is needed. Due to the planning rules passed by Attlee and as subsequently amended, not due to Thatcher. Rules which didn't matter too much when we had a stable… -

Good try, but the public spending decision sits with the treasury and elected ministers, it has not been outsourced. In a democracy, people, including footballers, are perfectly entitled to campaign and lobby, that is quite different to populism or an unelected adviser making decisions for their puppet PM. -
Re: Understanding Scottish voters – politicalbetting.com
Yes, though do we know it survived 'several rounds of drafting and editing'? Truss is an idiot, but I agree with her about one thing - in the last 30 years too much power has been taken away from elected representatives and given to unelected organisations. At least in the case of choosing Conservative party leaders - if… -
Re: I agree with Tory MP Alexander Stafford – politicalbetting.com
Why can't Labour do that? Other governments in other countries have - and Labour claim to acknowledge that housing costs are a great barrier to inequality and claim to be in favour of improving opportunities for all, so why not remove that barrier? There's no divine reason for planning consent, prior to its introduction… -

John Mills http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1somt3n Today John Mills, Chair of Labour Leave, responded to a report suggesting that housing prices could be harmed by the UK leaving the EU. The report was jointly commissioned by the Association of Residential Letting Agents and the National Association of Estate Agent. John… -

Re: 12pm update – All quiet on the WEStern Front – politicalbetting.com
The situation is in a fragile sort of dynamic equilibrium. It may all collapse and we'll see Starmer forced to go - I thought that was going to happen when Catherine West spoke out - but at the moment my best guess is that Starmer stays in place indefinitely. Indeed, after this shambles I think there is now a better chance… -

One thing strikes me. This whole hour has been heard largely in silence. You would expect that there would be some noises supporting Keith from the government side. And there's been nothing. Last time I heard the government back bench this quiet? Barring the "how have we been brought here" despairing questions? Liz Truss… -

The Speaker of the House of Representatives had a connection of sorts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Johnson ..In August 2010, Johnson was named the "founding dean" of the newly established Pressler School of Law at Louisiana College. The law school never opened, and Johnson resigned in August 2012. Joe Aguillard,… -

Morning all! A nice gentle 19 hour day with client top brass and a big customer meeting we have been planning for months. A spectacular success on all fronts - even my flight home (from Gatwick, not Luton) was on time which is unheard of. Missed the Starmer speech but from what I have seen in clips and reportage the… -

I think support for dads is way better than it used to be, the NCT stuff and support networks are completely different to what my dad described, my wife is also a bit of a star and our friends have come through with a big Deliveroo voucher. Thanks much to all of you who have commented on my question about factory homes in the UK. From what I have learned, it sounds as if there are many parallels between parts of the US, and much of the UK. An example, I suspect, of parallels. In 1990, the state of Washington passed the Growth Mangement Act.… -

Morning all :) An intriguing evening in Denmark but with the cool of the morning, a few thoughts. The Social Democrats, despite taking a beating, are the sole remaining large national party with 38 seats. The Folketing is fragmented as never before with no less than twelve parties winning seats. On the "red" or "left"…
