Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » As we await the Lord Ashcroft polling this afternoon
"Ukip are attempted to recruit Conservative MPs from under the noses of the Whips over glasses of beer on the House of Commons terrace. A number of Tory MPs have been approached to defect to Nigel Farage's party by a senior Ukip official working in the office of a member of the Lords. Matthew Richardson, a barrister and… -

Haven't been to Wick recently but I recall a somewhat pleasant and neat place with stone built houses and a feeling that nothing has happened there since at least 1950. The town is certainly very beautifully situated on a river with an attractive harbour and great coastal scenery. What have they done to it? -

Much of history is competing myths, believing a series of events would have happened anyway in some alternate reality is just another version of myth making. In the case of a post 1945 PM Churchill upholding Indian independence , there isn't much evidence to support it. 1931 'India is a geographical term. It is no more a… -

Goldman Sachs has been fined $800,000 (£466,000) by a US regulator for "failing" to ensure that trades in its dark pool took place at the best price. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28122577 Goldman Sachs Group Inc. settled a U.S. housing regulator's lawsuit for about $1.2 billion, resolving claims the Wall Street firm… -

I've had the pleasure of listening to two very different monologues this morning but both in their own way perceptive and interesting. First, Bill Maher on his returning Real Time show. Segments of it have been picked up by Fox News but unsurprisingly they are the ones that attack the Democrats especially in California.… -

We've checked before and found that, across a couple of different studies, about 25% or so of edits made to politicians' entries on Wikipedia are made from IP addresses belong to the Houses of Parliaments or central government. Obviously that's based on a few shots in the dark and whatnot so take with a pinch of salt. "An… -

Lay England? The England squad, including captain Ben Stokes, has been affected by a virus on the eve of the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Around 14 members of the travelling party of players and coaches were advised to rest at the hotel on Wednesday. About half of the playing squad of 16 has been hit, with… -

On another note, a local FB group has just had reports of a XL Bully loose near the end of the path that most of the secondary and primary school kids take - and which I will be taking in less than an hour. It is apparently acting 'aggressively'. I wouldn't know a XL Bully if I saw one (compared to, say, a Bulldog), and… -

Evening all :) I presume we've discussed the results of the British Virgin Islands General Election at length. As we all know, the Virgin Islands Party of Prime Minister Natalio Wheatley lost its majority in the House of Assembly ceding two seats to the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) led by Ronnie Skelton. The… -

Yeah, this is (well should be) a massive civil liberties story with a bureaucracy that has gone mad following kafkaesque rules that have been introduced without consideration of why society should leave anyone "unbanked". No-one should be "unbanked" regardless of what they have done. By all means monitor and control high… -

Don't be silly, Southam. This is what he said (in response to a specific question about the case, I believe): Mr Osborne, who this week has been defending cuts to housing benefit and other welfare changes, said: "Philpott is responsible for these absolutely horrendous crimes and these are crimes that have shocked the… -

Seconded. There is, however, a big 'if' in that first sentence. We shouldn't forget that there will undoubtedly be some opposition to any deal from both sides in the Middle East and that will produce some anti-agreement feeling in Congress who feel that Israel has been sold out. After that, we're debating detail and the… -

I rarely bothered about politics and have never voted. However, in the last decade, I have seen a sea change in people's quality of life. As a senior Health care professional, I see AE departments virtually gridlocked and in winter, in a near state of collapse. Hospitals beds reduced and many hospitals have been 'modified'… -
