I agree about Grand Budapest Hotel, and likewise with Richard Tyndall on this: it's a brilliant performance from Ralph Fiennes. He has been in storming form lately. The performance as Voldemort in the final HP was breathtaking. He does a damned good cameo as Gareth Mallory in Skyfall. But it's wonderful to see him turning… -

I agree that priority should be given to NHS staff. In fact, anyone who has any contact with NHS premises. Our response has always been about ensuring a fully functioning NHS. "Fully" has already been degraded by the loss of so much elective surgery. Having 50% of staff down is disastrous for even the remaining Covid… -

The invitation should never have been issued in the first place without confirming with the White House, at most it should have gone to the First Lady only (who likely will come) or the VP. The old stuffy courtiers would never have countenanced a US President getting a formal invite in this way given it is totally against… -

As someone who has worked for themselves, in the private sector for many years, and then public sector - I think WFH has very little to do with it. For years the public sector has been running on fumes and the good will of staff. Then covid hit and it was 'all hands on deck!'. Which was then rewarded with... Nothing. Or… -

Morning everyone, hoping some of the finance experts on here can help out with a question. I've got an opportunity to buy a small business (a bookshop). It's certainly viable - it's been running for 13 years, and has been the sole income for my friend who runs it for all that time. It's going to cost around 30-35k. I don't… -

When Alun Cairns first became MP for the Vale of Glamorgan he had a home just over the Western Vale border but it was still just inside Bridgend Borough. Local legend has it, and I can't categorically say it is true or otherwise, he allegedly made enquiries to have the Vale border extended into Bridgend so his house would… -

In a reflection of changing mores, the Supreme Court has given a broad hint this week that would-be tax avoiders can expect no help from the courts if their plans go awry, because tax avoidance is a bad thing: http://www.supremecourt.gov.uk/decided-cases/docs/UKSC_2011_0089_Judgment.pdf "Had mistake been raised in Futter… -

I've been trying to get my head around the issue facing Pension Funds that required the BoE intervention yesterday. Is this kind of correct? Pension funds buy bonds or lend the government money. But they worry that the value of the bonds could fall as a result of market volatility, resulting itself from eg anticipated need…
