Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Trump ousted from first place slot in the RCP Republican no
Time for me to repost what I put on the previous thread. Ah yes: a man who by his own admission earns half a million quid a year, has a housekeeper, has bought the lease of a shop in Notting Hill and has been living off the public teat for decades with a pension the rest of us can only dream about claims to know what it is… -
Re: Never put off until tomorrow… – politicalbetting.com
I must be extraordinarily lucky. My friend across the road has a new dog that she is struggling to stop from chewing through pretty much everything in her house. Mine doesn’t always do what I would like, but I can’t think of a single occasion when I would describe him as having been knowingly naughty. -

There's been some curious missteps of late. This, but also, a demand that all households install interlinked fire alarms at £200+ a pop by the end of last month - been routinely ignored, of course, not least because the supply has dried up. But questions over validity of house insurance. And then, of course, the utter… -

Thought I'd put in a visit on this day when a politicians dead father has managed to upstage what has been so far a tediously uninspiring Tory event from the grave. What amuses me is a party that deployed Brown, Balls, Whelan, Draper, McBride, Campbell, Maguire, Prescott, Simon, Watson etc etc to spew venom all over the… -

Islington North Update Corbyn ran a 'knock on every door in Islington North' mass canvass over the weekend, and got further press attention on the back of it. Labour have been concentrating on weekday afternoons and evenings - apparently targetting postal voters, but I've had a second visit from both campaigns as well as… -

Corbyn says he has been listening to what Theresa May has been saying. She says it is harder than ever for young people to buy their first home. Why is that? Cameron says he wants to congratulate May on becoming prime minister. When it comes to women prime ministers, soon it will be two nil. And not a pink bus in sight, he… -

"Donald Trump says France's Emmanuel Macron and UK PM Keir Starmer "haven't done anything" to end the war in Ukraine, ahead of visits from both leaders to the White House next week" "Trump speaks about Ukraine's President Zelensky and says: "I've been watching him negotiate with no cards. I really hope so. I hope everyone gets behind Kamala and she can win, because Trump demonstrably does not care about democracy, he has a Supreme Court opinion that Presidents can commit crimes, and he himself is already a convicted criminal. But I don't think she can win. I don't get all the negativity about her… -

Useful and fair summary from New Statesman as to where Boris currently stands. It's not over until its over... "Boris Johnson has - almost - made it to recess without a challenge to his leadership. Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbenchers, won't count the letters of no confidence again until the House… -

It's amazing how wide the range of mortgage rates has been over the last 40 years, from 15% in 1989 (weeks after I bought my first house) to about 1% at times since. I think the lowering of rates as our rates got closer to the European averages is why house prices tripled over the period from say 1995 to 2005. But I wonder… -

Yet another vacancy in US House today, following the death of Rep. Ron Wright (R-Texas), who died Sunday after contracting COVID. I don't think Senate Republicans will go along with this, precisely because it would be a farce and an embarrassment. There is no prospect of success as objections must be approved by both the Democrat-controlled House and a Senate which may (depending on Georgia run-off) have a GOP majority but which also has a clear… -

What a ridiculous calculation ! I mean, I can't see how it is possible to take one factor affecting house prices and separate it out from all the others, except by an untestable and unverifiable set of model assumptions. "Based on the ONS data, the advice to me from the department is that in the last 25 years we have seen… -

Thanks. They've really been around the houses on this one  I started off by suggesting a consumer machine that could be thrown away if it did not work well as an option, and that has turned out to be the low risk option. They're not quite that bad but I understand the disdain. Labour has been dealt a poor hand and played it incompetently. OTOH if you expect the likes of Farage and Tice to transform the country into anything other than a vast wealth transfer system that robs most of the population daily, so as to keep rentier capitalists… -

Indeed. For some reason I've been reading a fair bit about the First World War and one of the delights and pitfalls about reading history is that the mind starts to apply what's being read to the present day. One of the books I've been reading is Attrition by William Philpott which has a very gripping account of the Spring…
