Farewell Healey, a decent politician.
Lancaster will be looking for another job. No real surprise, two opensides beat two blindside flankers as we all knew they would do.
We didn't have Armitage, Wade, Cipriani, Tuilagi or Corbisiero for various reasons. Robshaw gave 100% but ... the back row were big blobs.
Australia were better.

There might be a by-election in Edinburgh West if these revelations about Thomson continue.
The SNP have already thrown her out, the question is when will she be forced to resign.
The SNP have a small majority but against the LD who have disintegrated completely in scotland since the election.
It will be an interesting race to see if the SNP can hold in the midst of a scandal and where will the LD vote go.

The Tory vote went from 10,767 to 6,732 so it is fairly reasonable to think that those Tories shored up a huge chunk of Mike Crockart's vote in 2015, he only lost 2,000 so someone was voting for him who wasn't previously compared to the national swing.kle4 said:

Opposition politicians urged the SNP to investigate the involvement of Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP Paul Monaghan in a home for the elderly, which faced allegations of ill-treatment of residents and sexual harassment of staff.

And that is true. All Team GB Olympic Sports are only focused on the Olympics because that is the primary measure for their funding. A good Olympics means your funding is secure or increased.ThreeQuidder said:
You said "British Cycling (and all Team GB Olympic Sports)".Dair said:
If you are a failing sport (and Athletics is a failing sport which barely hit a low-ball target for London 2012) you can use your intermediate Worlds to either support the case that you are making progress or attempt to argue that the Olympic measure was too harsh.

Monaghan was also involved in a more recent controversy. In 2008 he resigned from his post as head of planning and development at Northern Constabulary before he was due to face a disciplinary hearing.
Monaghan was accused of circulating an unflattering email about the force’s then chief constable, Ian Latimer, suggesting he had lost the respect and support of his staff.

She attacks Farage for blaming the 'stranger' and being 'prejudiced' playing the same false racist card. She claims they come here to work, and while that may be true of the vast majority - should we not force the EU to mandate that they have a job lined up on arrival? Even that little reform seems too difficult for the ancient machinery and doesn't fit their usual solution to everything, federalism or more Europe.

***** BETTING POST *****
If Jamie Redknapp is correct in his claim that Jose Mourinho is losing the dressing room at Chelsea, then the Blues may struggle to finish in the top 6, let alone qualify for next season's Champions League by finishing 4th or better (always assuming England's allocation is not reduced to just three sides as has recently been suggested). There is simply no way back for a manager once this tipping point has been reached, yet it's difficult to imagine The Special One being sacked, especially at this early stage of the season.
In such circumstances, PBers may wish to consider LAYING Chelsea against them finishing in the top 6, currently available with the Betfair Exchange at 1.15, equivalent to odds of 5.38/1 in old money, net of 5% commission.
As ever, DYOR.0 -

More than half of teachers in England (53%) are thinking of quitting in the next two years, a survey has suggested.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-34426598
The survey, conducted by the National Union of Teachers, found 61% of those wanting to leave blamed workload and 57% desired a better work/life balance.
Two thirds of the 1,020 primary and secondary school teachers questioned felt morale in the profession had declined over the past five years.
I'm not sure I trust this survey - but that's only because I find it scarcely believable that nearly half of teachers are planning to stay in the profession.
Let's look at the problems in teaching:
1) Workload. People on PB do not believe me when I tell them I routinely work around 70-80 hours per week. But I do. I worked five days, than yesterday I was in school working again, and today I go back in and will be continuing to work.
2) OFSTED. Yes, I know Wilshaw has said OFSTED is not a factor in teacher disillusionment. However, it is, and unless he is as stupid as he looks he knows it is. The fact that he says otherwise therefore makes him either an idiot or a liar. Alas, OFSTED reflects his general incompetence. The reason I am working insane hours is because we areinspectingexpecting (Freudian slip) the goons, as we call them, in a few weeks. And unfortunately, it is not enough to prove that our results are excellent (which they are - among the best in the land for the last seven years, probably the best for a non-selective school) we have to somehow prove that we were responsible for them. That means endless extra paperwork to evidence planning, differentiation, outstanding marking, examples of peer and teacher dialogue and support, etc etc etc. If I didn't have to do all that rubbish, I would be working about 50-55 hours per week, which would be hard but acceptable. Unfortunately, OFSTED will ignore such evidence if it doesn't feel it fits a preconceived narrative. Nothing is more soul-destroying than doing a good job and being told off for being rubbish by some talentless mediocrity who got a job because of their political connections (I'm looking at you, Wilshaw, but also thinking of dear old Woodenhead).
3) The abolition of university ITT courses. The idea that they were a hotbed of radicalism is bunkum. True, the lecturers tended to be leftwing, but the students were not (until Gove came along and converted us). What they did provide was a straightforward, well-supported way into teaching. SCITT does not - there are no resources, no chance to mingle with other students in your course, and a distinct lack of help with careers.

4) The age of teachers - a great number are in their late fifties. As they get on the whole pretty good salaries and pensions, they will shortly be joining doctors in getting out while the going is good, leaving a vast gap.
5) Exams. The changes to exams, although in many ways a dramatic improvement on what has gone before, have been rushed in (attempting to beat the Conservatives' expected ejection from office last May) and are in an organisational mess. We still do not have final SoWs for the new GCSE - in Maths, the most vital of subjects, they don't even have draft SoWs yet. Meanwhile, in roughly 30% of schools (including mine) teaching on the new courses began last month. What am I supposed to teach them? Horrible Histories and chess? It would have been much better to delay them 18 months and get it right.
Classroom assistants are filling the gap (and teaching unions can rant and rail all they want, I admire classroom assistants and have no problem with them covering my lessons from time to time). But it isn't fair on them, or the children, to expect them to fill in permanently. Therefore, at some point, we will have a massive implosion of the education system. That will be particularly bad for the large numbers of children currently working through it (a bit of a population bulge about to hit secondary - we've just had our busiest ever open event, and a colleague in Walsall was similarly overwhelmed the other night).
Politically speaking, this should be a gift to Labour as all of the above are wholly unforced errors from the Cameron governments. But with the EdStone's creator shadowing education, Labour have as much chance of making capital out of education as Corbyn has of getting my vote (none). That also means that there is unlikely to be redress for us as no government will admit disastrous mistakes and rectify them unless it is forced to.
Nasty business, and I feel sorry for parents and above all for the children who have to deal with the damaging results.0 -
This union poll is a load of doo doo. Bound to be full of leading questions. It's the same nonsense as the doctors stuff
