And so it begins – politicalbetting.com

Miliband is viewed by allies as a “kingmaker” to a potential run for the leadership by Andy Burnham. Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, is understood to have told supporters in recent days that a backbench MP is willing to stand down as soon as this weekend to facilitate his return to Westminster.

Burnham is making the accession of AN Other even more likely if he’s going down this route.

If a contest is triggered by Ange/Wes he simply doesn’t have time to get back into the Commons.

Election rules mean I can’t say much on polling day, but I can say this.

Tomorrow STV's scheduled Scottish election programme from 5pm will be replaced by an episode of quiz show, The Chase, as staff go on strike over a decision to freeze salaries.

Am I the only one who thinks Labour aren't doing too badly, and I mean regarding their relative electoral position? From the last poll I recall, they were 8 points behind the front runner, which midterm isn't great but not terrible. Sure, the headline figures are bad, but there's a long way to the next GE and most of the leaders of the other parties are pretty flawed. And none of them are the incumbent.

I do think one of Starmer's problems is that his roots in the political Labour party are not deep and he has no natural faction. Ed Balls, on his podcast talked about how Starmer's lack of political background might come back to get him and I think he might be right.

    QTWAIN.

A Top 4/5 club winning a Cup does not award the country an extra spot.

We would get 6 if Villa win the Europa Cup and finish outside the Top 5.

See: Spurs last season. Finished 18th, won the Cup, got Champions League football as a bonus club.

While Starmer has been an utter disappointment, timid, politically clumsy and disastrous appointments, that doesn't mean that I won't be upset to lose a competently run council because of the public's opinion of Starmer.

Burnham being a self-important c*ck is probably a polling advantage, it certainly seemed to do wonders for the Lib Dem elected to be the local MP against far more likeable candidates on both sides, and maybe it is time a Northerner got a go at f***ing things up.

I am a Forest fan for the night.

Please don’t make Prince William happy tonight.

If Villa win the Europa Cup will that not add another Champions League place i.e. 6th would be in the Champions League, providing Villa qualify by being in the top 5 ?
Only if they finish fifth I believe.

AIUI. The order goes. Top 4 qualify. Then winners of Europa League if they haven't already qualified (ie fifth or lower). Then the bonus place to the next highest placed club.
    Confused. You will be.
Not really complicated. if Arsenal win the ecl there won't be an extra team as they have already qualified. No different for Villa.

If Palace wins the conference , they will get in the Europa.
Edit, no different for Villa if they finish 4th.
But if Villa finish fifth then the sixth place team gets in. But not if they finish Top 4.
    Why?

Club outside qualification getting it anyway due to the Cup, so a bonus spot, I get.

Club 5th getting it so 6th gets it too . . . that's just weird.
There is the prospect of 3/4 of the teams playing in the Title deciding matches on the last day being European finalists, and none of them being Man City. It's like a school sports day

I think it is because England gets 4 places.

Then winning the Europa League gets a place, then the bonus spot for.

So Villa in fifth place but Europa League winners supersedes the bonus spot.

Ed Miliband has told Keir Starmer to plan his resignation, according to reports.

But will he actually wield the knife post locals?

    @kateferguson4

    Team Ed responds!

Ed spokesperson: "We do not comment on private conversations but we do not accept this account.

“Ed has always supported the Prime Minister and continues to do so as he delivers on his mandate for change."

They “dont accept the account” but don’t deny a conversation was had.

There’s skullduggery at play here, m’lud.

So, what do we expect? A statement in a couple of minutes from Streeting to say that Starmer has to go?

Starmer plans to reboot his leadership by dropping the technocratic tone and delivering at pace on his plan for change.

Starmer's plan to pick Labour back up after the elections:
*pivot from 'hero voters' to 'progressive block'
*more action on defence and environment
    *drop the technocratic tone
