OT. Interesting piece of polling on 'Today' which will appear in the Observer tomorrow. Only 6% are where Kemi is ie go in all guns blazing with the Americans
That is not her position
She supports action when and if our military come under attack from Iranian missiles
Indeed Lammy arrived on the same page yesterday
Yesterday US B1s landed in UK, and are authorised by Starmer to use our air bases in their war v Iran
Rachel Sylvester said simply that only 6% were where Kemi is whereas despite the UK press SKS following a rules based order is pretty well where the country is. Voters see broad brush strokes. Incidentally that wasn't Lammy's position. It was the Daily Mail misleading. They asked him what the British should do if attacked. Which shouldn't have given rise to their headline
David Lammy was interviewed across the media and your attempt to dismiss the story as misleading is simply you being misleading
Identical positions? Kemi is NOT coming across as Pro Trumps War and Gung-Ho? 🥹
Little Miss Angry today -
“Keir Starmer spent days consulting lawyers and plucking up the courage to say whose side he was on, even though our allies had the moral clarity to do so immediately and unequivocally. “Even now, he is sitting on the fence, still deciding what our role is going to be in this war. We are in this war whether Keir Starmer likes it or not. It's time to act.”
The Sunday Newspapers need a poll “do you agree with Big G, Kemi is not coming across as Pro Trumps War and Gung Ho?”
Kemi hitting a nerve and is serious about protecting our military who are in direct line of fire
She is right to say that the RAF will attack Iranian missile launch sites if they are a threat to our planes
Seems Lammy agrees as well
Poll the public on my second sentence and see the response
Striking a nerve. That’s exactly my point.
Why Little Miss Angry should be more careful here, her SCATHING ATTACKS on Labour are coming across as scathing attacks on the UK military, whilst they are in the field.
I respectfully disagree, not least because labour have been woeful and deserve criticism
The Navy ship deployment to Cyprus is simply a farce of unimaginable stupidity with the work force under union orders only to work 9 - 5, 5 days a week !!!!!!!!!!!!
Starmer bans US use of British bases following pressure from Miliband and then someone leaks this from the NSC, and within 48 hours Starmer changes his mind allowing B1s to land and take off on mission to Iran from RAF Fairford and B52s from Diego Garcia
Lammy then comes on the media in broadcast interviews and agrees with Kemi that the UK can attack Iran if our military are threatened
And you want the government to have a free pass !!!!!!!!!!!!!
And with equal respect, Big G - whilst you are expending all this energy trying to convince PB the Tory and Lab positions are identical on Trumps War, Little Miss Angry is out there convincing the UK voters there is a GULF OF CLEAR BLUE WATER between Tories and government on this WAR.
You don’t say a boat took too long to get in the med because it was stuck in refit, by pointing out Bevin in 1950 was patriotic, but Labour is not patriotic anymore - that is two different things. How else do you interpret it?
I simply respectfully disagree with you on this, but I provide my own view as honestly as I see it and of courss many will not be persuaded
I would add refering to Kemi as little miss angry and using capitals will not change my view
Projection from MoonRabbit?
ugh. Don’t dig up Sigmund Freud, and pour him all over me.
Noticeable BigG didn’t answer, just said No.
How about Little Miss “Slag Off Britain And Slag Off British Military Whilst It’s In The Air In Theatre” Mouth?
SHE’S GETTING IT WRONG, JUST LIKE CORBYN DID OVER SALISBURY.
Writing in CAPS LOCK does not make your comments either any more accurate or forceful.
Slagging off Starmer's choices is not slagging off either Britain or the British Military.
You are defending what Kemi Badenoch said?
Obviously.
She was right. She neither criticised Britain nor the military, she criticised Starmer and she was right to do so.
“British Troops Are just hanging around.”
You would repeat that yourself?
Yes.
We are bystanders watching as America does the heavy lifting.
Shame on Starmer. Our troops should be fighting our enemy and ensuring regime change occurs, liberating the Iranian public, defeating our enemies and cutting off the supplier of Shahed drones to Russia which is killing Ukrainians.
You just asked me why I @ you. It was precisely because of this kind of empty bellicosity.
Trump has said quite clearly he'll happily make a deal with the current regime. As for our "fighting the enemy" we have virtually nothing of significance we could contribute. It would be an extensive empty gesture making no difference to whatever the outcome turns out to be.
It would also detract from whatever capacity we gave to aid Ukraine.
And, FWIW, it would be extremely unpopular with the UK electorate.
Claims that Portsmouth dockyard is only working 9-5 are false. GB News understands sailors, engineers, contractors and civil servants are working round the clock to get HMS Dragon operational.
"I never thought I would see the day when Britain's allies felt that they could not rely on us. This week, they have described us as weak. They've accused us of deserting them, of going missing in action. They have watched Britain refusing to send reinforcements to defend our military bases in the Mediterranean. The US, Greece and France have all sent ships. Ours is stuck in Portsmouth Harbour because of a union dispute." - Kemi Badenoch.
I'm not sure who LMA is targeting with this nonsense. Anybody susceptible to stupid shit like this is already voting tory or Fukker.
She never challenges the Fukkers on policy or probity or anything else, but just restates the Fukker position in a highly irritated tone. This does not shift voting intention as the polls show or actual voting as the by-elections show.
Farage and the Fukkers are noticeably very quiet. Farage doesn’t actually believe in messy “Wars of Choice” like this, that’s come across very clearly. They are allowing Kemi free rein over the airwaves to have what’s easily her worst weekend yet in role as leader.

Union dispute? Shades of the Bicester to Bletchley rail line, completed over a year ago but still lacking passenger trains!
Forgot to add:
The West Midlands Metro tram line from Wednesbury to Dudley is "expected" to open in August, just two years late!
Metro extension to Washington, hopefully 2033, just commenced.
Turkey is examining the possibility of deploying F-16 Fighting Falcon jets to the island of Cyprus as part of security planning linked to the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, according to reports in Turkish Cypriot media.
As Reform are nowhere in London outside the outer suburbs and the Labour vote collapsed to the Greens and so in London it is more the left than right vote split so the Tories can come through the middle
Looking at the bigger picture how long before wars are mostly fought by AI driven robots? Can't be far off. At that point the perceived downside of war for those who think they have the best bots will be significantly diminished and we shall descend into either anarchy or a world of masters and slaves.
Though even the Chinese military are supposedly somewhat concerned about retaining control of AI
Keir Starmer is right to stand up to Donald Trump over Iran.
While the brutal Iranian regime should rightly be condemned and international pressure applied, this war is not the right course of action.
He is, rightly or wrongly, getting lots of support. Just probably not from the people you listen to.
This is typical of the type of response he's getting:
"But, Sadiq, Starmer isn’t ‘standing up’ to Trump: an American B-1 Lancer Bomber has already been photographed landed at RAF Fairford and more are to come."
"This is why Labour are hated. The entire premise of this letter is a lie. Starmer has given the US permission to use British bases to attack Iran. British forces are defending the US and Israeli military attacking Iran. We are not, in any way, “standing up to Trump”. Just lies."
You do realise that social media, even quality social media, isn't representative of the views of the public?
And that X dot com is even less representative than most SM?
You do realise that... don't you?
To be honest I expect the public are very worried and just want it all to go away
Unfortunately, that is not where we are as we did not join the attacks by the US and Israel, but those attacks has had serious military and economic knock ons for the region and all of us
Iran response by spraying missiles across the middle east indiscriminately to friend and foe required an immediate response to defend our interests in the area and those of our allies
This is where the issue of defensive v offensive is dancing on a pin head
We are active in the arena shooting down drones and missiles, but as of now we have not lost personal or any aircraft but we have to have the right to target Iranian missile sites in the eventuality they are a threat to our aircraft
This is essentially Kemi's position from day one, but labour got caught up with internal cabinet disputes and legalities that initially made Starmer rule out UK bases but then in probably Starmer's biggest U turn allowed the use of these bases by US to attack Iran
The question defensive or offensive has been overtaken by events
..Eh! This is spin that could have come out of CCHQ. Have you considered a role there?
We are not in the game and are not needed. It’s plain that suggesting anything other than minor support is showboating.
Couched behind unfailing politeness @Big_G_NorthWales has become one of the most partizan posters on this board recently. You could read CCHQ media to know what he's about to post. Strange as @HYUFD has drifted the other way in the past couple of years and become far more interesting as a result.
HYUFD doesn't hide the fact that he's a Tory, but he has always avoided the spin lines. That's why he's one of the most valuable contributors to the site. No one has a better insight into the workings of the party than he does; I would tend towards the Kemi is likely to be ditched post-May, rather than that she will lead the Tories into the next election school of thought, because of what HYUFD has had to say on the question.
Having said that, I tend to pay less attention to him when he's talking about subjects other than the Tory Party.
I would just say that @HYUFD has not published or commented on the recent Conhome poll of members of the shadow cabinet that shows Kemi on 81.6 and Cleverly on 31.9
This does not suit his narrative and is largely why I believe she will survive the May polling
And I haven't attempted to hide that I support the conservatives but am not a little englander in my attitude
Kemi could have a Conhome rating of 100% from members. Yet if the Tories are third or worse in May in the NEV from the local and devolved elections and below not only Reform but Labour or the Greens too many Tory MPs will think they have no choice but to replace her with Cleverly in order to shore up the 2024 Tory vote and win more anti Reform tactical votes from Labour and the LDs
The Tories could get battered in the rest of England, Scotland and Wales, but if that is the result in London the media will be announcing a marvellous set of results for Team Kemi.

Next quarter final - the Sharks in blue, a new team, up against veterans Aces we Win.
Sharks just ahead…and take the first round in 15:26
And the Sharks’ dog Graffiti wins for them in the second race, seeing the Aces out of the competition. Sharks are clearly a team to watch in tomorrow’s semis!

Indeed they would
To be fair, during COVID, the greatest minds of the media took 3 months to not understand why Murder Tuesday happened. After it had been explained to them, using small words.
Commenting on an election in other terms than "1st is winningest, 2nd is also awesome" would require something they do not that the ability to do - to defer to people with knowledge.

It doesn't really matter if they are concerned. They can't leave it to the Americans, and the Americans can't leave it to the Chinese. And if it doesn't start with those two, it will still start somewhere else, the technology is not something that can be easily controlled to a few nations like we have done with nuclear weapons.
The fact Sir Lewis could win his ninth title at the age of 41 is a tribute to his brilliance and the fact he is one of the UK's greatest sporting champions
SLH would be an excellent ceremonial president when we get rid of the crowned thieves. He's one of the few people of sufficient stature who can command respect from both gammons and progressives.
I wouldn't go that far. he is a great talent but not everyone likes him, he is not the most charming person in the world and has expensive tastes, indeed Yougov gives him a +35% rating from UK voters which while fractionally higher than the King's +29% is still far below Prince William's +62%. I am sure Sir Lewis has zero interest in being a UK President anyway and as a knight of the realm remains a constitutional monarchist and will leave being UK head of state to those trained from birth to do the role
I know what you mean, but given that said training has delivered the Dukes of Windsor, York and Sussex, one has to question how effective it is.
If I had that sort of failure rate, I'd be expecting a meeting without biscuits to discuss the issue at the very least.
(The real point is that the training is for a role that's fundamentally insane, especially if it's essentially for life. The psychologically healthiest Head of State model is to make it opt-in, temporary and with powers summed up as "politicians mustn't embarrass the National Treasure."
Think the Chancellor of a moderately reputable redbrick university.)
York and Sussex were spares, they were NOT trained as the heirs. Windsor was very popular as Prince of Wales, especially in areas hit by the depression he visited, Parliament removed him though once he tried to marry a divorcee as monarch as they will likely remove Andrew from the line of succession.
Constitutional monarchy works and is always better than a politician head of state, hence monarchists like me would never accept a republic
I do not want a republic but not sure what you would do if it happened
Join the Constitutional monarchy group to restore the monarchy the next day and wave ‘Not my President’ placards at any new UK republic President wherever they went.
Outside very rare examples once gone they tend to go for good - i'd not like it, but there is not going to be a mass movement to reverse course if it happens, especially if the president was ceremonial.
If we became a republic we would most likely have PM Polanski and a Green government sending the country bankrupt and taxes sky high and imposing wokeism everywhere, So restoring the monarchy would likely initially be the least of our problems but the campaign would be there ready and waiting to strike

When was the last time time an international team scored 40 and still lost?
I asked Grok
But to be precise, let’s say the most recent known instance of a team scoring 40 points and losing is Australia on June 25, 2016, losing 40-44 to England.
Trump and Farage’s minders will be on alert for any requests for shout outs for good pal Ian who has just passed away and did such a lot for their community.

Well done Scotland, against a cracking French team
Try watching League!
I have no animosity towards league and found the league v union fanatics tedious but I’ve tried to get into it and have never been able to.
Same, I find the fifth tackle rule bizarre, in proper rugby you have to prise the ball from our cold dead hands.
It works though; keeps the game moving. I was brought up watching and playing Union, but then I went North, started watching League and was converted. If I have a grumble about League, it's about the scrums. 'Vestigial' is my view; either make them real or do away altogether.

As the replies to the post note, it explains why he's still alive
The United Arab Emirates says it is responding to an incoming "missile and drone" attack from Iran.
Memo obviously not got through.
I thought reporting of much of what Iran President said was poorly reported on the main UK outlets today, as reported on sites in other countries - France, India, Australia - Iran was crystal clear in saying, we are firing at you because US are at war with us, and you have US bases in your country where this war on us is coming from, which he stated made them all a legitimate targets and whilst the war continues they will see always them as a legitimate targets. Those lines he did say are the take out message really, aren’t they, and he does have a reasonable point - we can’t ask ourselves why they are firing all round the place like bonkers, when there is that logical answer.
* Qatar: Al Udeid Air Base forward headquarters for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Bahrain: Naval Support Activity Home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet * Kuwait: Ali Al Salem Air Base & Camp Arifjan a * United Arab Emirates: Al Dhafra Air Base housing F-22 Raptors * Jordan: Muwaffaq al Salti Air Base F-15E Strike Eagles
Saudi Arabia and Oman and Turkey in exactly same place as Starmer’s UK officially, will not allow their territory or airspace to be used for offensive strikes against Iran.
The one missile fired at Turkey US intercepted is now believed to have been off course.
Also, Australia have their military helping on a lot of US submarines, so are owning everything US are doing in this war - whether you see that as bad or good. Australian polling thinks it’s good, and Canada polling is as high as 33% very happy to be helping US and Israel.
I also found, Greeks and Israel saying drone that hit Cyprus base was launched on island and come through the mountains, that’s why it was successful. Wish I posted it. I can’t find it now as when I move off it to other search and close tab it loses old pages. The UK government did seem to take that attack as though shocked, maybe there is a cover up what they actually know. Kemi thanked Starmer for the security brief, if they gave it to her she wouldn’t be allowed to say it publicly either. But if USA start saying this it will soon be al, over our news.
Reform UK Leader in Notts Mick Barton advised that 1000 potholes could have been fixed with the £75k wasted on putting flags up. His response 'Shut up about the flags, listen we've run out of money'.
Official IRGC statement: “President Pezeshkian made a mistake [saying they won't attack neighboring countries], and our forces demonstrated his mistake. His comments were 5 hours ago, and since then Dubai and Abu Dhabi are being struck. Ignore Pezeshkian's words during the war.”
We're back to zoom government. "You have no authority here Pres Pezeshkian".
Read the standing orders!
So we now know Pezeshkian is representing one faction in a divided leadership.
The Tories could get battered in the rest of England, Scotland and Wales, but if that is the result in London the media will be announcing a marvellous set of results for Team Kemi.
The media might but 93% of Tory MPs are not representing London constituencies and if they see the party battered in their English provincial local council or Holyrood elections many will start getting very jittery about holding their own seats with Kemi. It is of course Tory MPs who decide on a VONC in the party leader not the media
There will be no VONC end off
If the Tories are third or worse in the local and devolved elections in May then enough will fear for their seats to get to the 38 Tory MPs requesting a VONC for one to be held

Why can’t they sing in time with the anthem singer.
Because they always choose opera singers or similar who forget what they are performing for so they slow it down and add embellishments to show their skills instead of singing it at the pace that the crowd and players have sung it at for decades.
Last night there was a question about how can anyone tell about division within the ranks of the Iranian regime.
If you listen the Iranian President the Iranian Foreign Ministry statements in last day or two, thats a sign right there. You think what they are saying is agreed policy? Not a chance.

Pezeshkian has seemed a bit sidelined since Ali Khameini got taken out And if decision making was indeed devolved out to local command structures he seems a bit of a spare part

Although she said in Interviews last year if LE 26 were very poor (as bad as 25) shed take that as a sign its time to go

He'd been a bit sidelined before Khamenei was taken out to be fair too.
Comments
It was precisely because of this kind of empty bellicosity.
Trump has said quite clearly he'll happily make a deal with the current regime.
As for our "fighting the enemy" we have virtually nothing of significance we could contribute. It would be an extensive empty gesture making no difference to whatever the outcome turns out to be.
It would also detract from whatever capacity we gave to aid Ukraine.
And, FWIW, it would be extremely unpopular with the UK electorate.
I think its a little bit bullish on Greens and Tories though

Memo obviously not got through.
The Bouncers run in blue…first race, Tails are ahead, and secure their first win.
Second race.. Tails looking good… 2:0. Tails progress to the next round
Sharks just ahead…and take the first round in 15:26
And the Sharks’ dog Graffiti wins for them in the second race, seeing the Aces out of the competition. Sharks are clearly a team to watch in tomorrow’s semis!
Well done Scotland, against a cracking French team
What am I doing wrong?
Commenting on an election in other terms than "1st is winningest, 2nd is also awesome" would require something they do not that the ability to do - to defer to people with knowledge.
I’m a fat fuck but this dog, at 250 lbs, is way heavier than me
Then they just need England to play miraculously in Paris.....
I know DC is direct current but that’s it
Hopefully this extension and further ones if they happen will create a fair few jobs
But to be precise, let’s say the most recent known instance of a team scoring 40 points and losing is Australia on June 25, 2016, losing 40-44 to England.

Junkyard pull ahead on the second leg - but a fault! Odyssey win the first.
Second race - Junkyard win on a time just over 14 seconds - so it goes to a deciding third race!
Third race - a fault on blue! Released too early? So Odyssey win? Waiting for confirmation…there’s no VCR so the race will be re-run
The final run…a photo finish? Junkyard win by a whisker!
DC.

Two faults against Cambridgeshire, but a fault on the blue, but the blue dog fumbled the ball so the Cambridgeshire team win the first.
Second run..Cambridgeshire Border Collie Storm takes them home with a fast run - they’re looking good for tomorrow!

If I have a grumble about League, it's about the scrums. 'Vestigial' is my view; either make them real or do away altogether.
Tails, versus Sharks - super fast - Graffiti the lurcher wins the first for the Sharks
Second race - the Tails just take it, so it goes to a third race tie break
The excitement builds - neck and neck - but a fault from the Tails - so the Sharks have it!
First race - Cambs are ahead - now a fault from red, Cambs take it,
Second race - Junkyard have it all to do - very close - super quick turns from Junkyard, making it one each!
The deciding final round -looking good for Junkyard, super fast. They win 2:1 They’re well positioned for tomorrow’s exciting climax!
A fault - dropped ball from a blue dog, who just stopped - bizarre - so the Sharks take the first
Second race - the sharks re ahead, and another fault from blue, making the Sharks the Saturday champion!
Junkyard are fast but sloppy - putting a big ? over their prospects for tomorrow
Those lines he did say are the take out message really, aren’t they, and he does have a reasonable point - we can’t ask ourselves why they are firing all round the place like bonkers, when there is that logical answer.
