Are you ready for Trump winning 2028? – politicalbetting.com

Oddly this interview with Eric Trump has cheered me up because I’ve been saying and betting for a while that I am expecting a Trump to be the Republican nominee in 2028, it might Donald Trump, it might be Donald Trump Jr, or Eric Trump (I also have long shot bets on Jared Kushner).

Trump could legally adopt his favoured successor in order to pass on the name.

The SCOTUS judgment reads like a very well argued slap down of activist judges, to me. We could do with the same in the UK/EU

This is not an opinion on Trump's ICE antics: that is a different matter
Had the same SCOTUS slapped down lower courts issuing nationwide rulings on guns or abortion, then I would have a lot more sympathy.

Still, I'm so up for this case.

Gavin Newsom sues Fox News for $787M in defamation case over Trump call
The amount is nearly identical to Dominion Voting’s 2023 defamation settlement with Fox News.

Possible either Eric or Trump Jr could win the GOP nomination, although I would make VP Vance narrow favourite for that.

Yet unless Trump can get his approval ratings closer to 50% from their current 40-45% or so none of them would have a chance of winning the general election

The US State Department will soon establish a new "Office of Natural Rights," tasked with monitoring so-called "free speech backsliding" in Europe and criticizing what it views as censorship.

The office may also impose visa restrictions on European officials who criticize US citizens online.

What remains unclear is how this new office will handle JD Vance memes.

Health will get a big boost, admittedly at the expense of much else.

What there has been a huge lack of is vision, symbolised by the terrible decision to heavily water down the green growth plan. What he needs to do first is get in a new lot of people around him who can articulste a vision, and get rid of McSweeney.

The tories on here will fucking despise him and all his works no matter what he does as is their right and inclination. His current Red Reform strategy might be his least worst option.

Basically, the British voters hate everything and each other. They keep voting for self-harming nihilism like Brexit and then wondering why everything's fucked. They want lower taxes, better public services, a renewed sense of national purpose and time travel to either 1959 or 2003. If any politician can come up with a compelling vision of how to achieve that, they are laughing.
    What was wrong with 2003?

It looks as though the Democrats are beginning to embrace reality, as Harris starts to slide down in this polling.

    Democratic Presidential Polling:

    AOC 7%
    Shapiro 7%
    Sanders 5%
    Booker 3%

LBC came from the other direction. Callers from the left outraged at the hideousness of the Welfare Reform Bill. It was looking horrendous for Starmer, and then Ric Holden made a speech, and Starmer's position didn't seem so bad after all.

I despair at the hypocritical booji twerps that now make Glasto near-unbearable, however it has established itself as part of the British summer season, and it is and always be iconic, and it will change again in the future. And at its best it is brilliant. On a still midsummer evening, with the sun going down, the music wafting over the campfires, and the Tor on the skyline, it does meld England now with England then and England which has yet to be. Arthurian and electric, the Holy Grail and MDMA, I have loved it. Better with loads of drugs, obvs

I was there in the early 80s! My first ever Glasto, it was either 82 or 83 - so I may have brushed past you. I was the guy on shrooms (one of many thousands, clearly)

Just had my IP address blocked by Vanilla so have switched to a new one using my advanced Russian troll skills*. Triggered by "like".

Or more likely the "maintenance" Vanilla is carrying out for the next few days.

*I turned off the router to my ISP, left it off for a bit, then turned it back on to grab a different NAT IP.

Same with me, I've had to switch to the vf site.

FPT: Off topic, but important. Possibly. This Washington Post analysis of US special elections:
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/06/27/democratic-special-election-gains/
Among all special elections this year, Democrats have outperformed Kamala Harris’s vote share in 2024 by 13 percentage points, based on Harris-Trump baselines calculated by the Downballot, an election data newsletter. That’s the largest shift toward any party in years. In fact, all but four of the 31 special elections have seen movement toward Democrats.
    https://www.the-downballot.com/

If that pattern continues for a year I would change that "Possibly" to "Very probably".

    History Quiz.

Where in the UK can you find the following in a small space, accessible to the general public? Some PBers have certainly walked right past it.

    A section of Roman pavement.
    An Epstein sculpture.
A 9th century BC stone with cuneiform inscriptions, from the area of modern Iraq.
A memorial to a Russian Major, who fought for Czarist Russia, France and England.

    Clues may be available.

It looks as though the Democrats are beginning to embrace reality, as Harris starts to slide down in this polling.

    Democratic Presidential Polling:

    AOC 7%
    Shapiro 7%
    Sanders 5%
    Booker 3%
    Whitmer 3%
    Beshear 2%
    Pritzker 2%
    Moore 2%

    Emerson / June 25, 2025

    https://x.com/USA_Polling/status/1938603011045245005

Too early to say what it means for the nomination, but it's interesting that Newsom's energetic attacks on Trump are getting him a modicum of support from an electorate very sceptical about him.

This poll is not reflected in the odds on Betfair for next President.

Newsom and AOC are the favourites and Harris is nowhere.
Harris lost against the guy that lost against Biden. And she lost against Biden as well.

Lying is as natural to him as breathing, and even when he's telling the truth, like if he told you the grass was green, it wouldn't be because the grass was green, it would be because the script that week is that the grass is green because the little people like green grass. On topic, I'd rather they skipped the generations and picked on the young man - is it Barron? Would he want it (yet), though?

Isn't he too young for 2028?
    He's not eligible until 2041 (35 yo)
    So 2044 election
Really? That sounds a very good policy - age of maturity & all that.

(I came across it again today. I first visited in 1997. The annoying thing is that the only way there has steps  .)

I saw no 3 in a video recently - from a Ziggurat and now surprisingly close to St Pauls?
I think it's from a place called Ziggurat. But that was what reminded me. The chap missed the Epstein, but they are trying to surprise and make you visit, too.

I used to go there with my packed lunch when I was working on Little Britain, and then Victoria Street. Since I was living nearby, I also experimented with campanology.

This is a piccie of the entrance with those (*&£%^&*^% %^*()()(^$ (**&&% **% steps. This will reverse image search. I love the Mk 1 wheeliebin discretely in the frame.

If I get around to affording a flat in Central London, it would in a ziggurat. No - not THAT Ziggurat, that one has no garden  .
