FPT ! A good interview with the new Reform leader of Kent County Council, Linden Kemkaran. AFAICS several of them seem to be small business people.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La9ZlDkxXT4

To give her her due, she does talk a good game & it's worth a listen.

Like Starmer's Govt, they have 4 years to deliver, and that is how they will be judged.

One of the things Linden Kemkaran does is to swat Camilla Tominey's speculation about "hundreds of millions" of savings and cuts in Council Tax with a suggestion of "at least £75m". That is 3% of KCC spending and sounds to me like the type of number they will have to save just to meet Rachel Reeves' efficiency requirements. It sounds to me as if they will aim to simply withdraw from offering certain services, if they think it can be palmed off.

I think one thing that RefUK need to do if they are serious is benchmarking across their Councils, but they have punched all their staff on the nose with threats before even taking over.

    Yes, I was also impressed.

A very good video reporting on (yet) a(nother) fire on an electric car carrier 300 miles off Alaska.

Good explanations about what these ships are like - it's like a 14 deck Herald of Free Enterprise, and how the fires are fought. TLDR: Flood it with C02 and get off pronto, since it won't stop even underwater. 12 minutes.

PS Why do the Scottish start counting at midnight (IIHTR)?

I think what we need is for Trump-Musk to get so acrimonious it actually turns reality inside-out so that they become friends again, and THEN they fall out again.

Just heard about this and is Trump going to pull his support for Tesla ?

It may be popcorn to some but not those of us who are very concerned about the consequences

    And Reform disintegrating as well

Let's go back to the Blair and Cameron- Clegg years

My prediction for Hamilton is an SNP hold by about 8% over RefUK but if the latter wins it it's going to totally re-arrange Scottish politics. Could be an exciting night.

Even that result is a total rearrangement. Might just be a flash in the pan, but an SNP v Reform Westminster election kinda feels right, with the SNP winning handily given their coalition.

I'm not sure how it will translate to Holyrood. The electoral system means the smaller parties are more likely to hold onto their voters, to the detriment of the potential "big two".

Only a handful of his first term Cabinet supported his re-election, not including his Vice-President. You'd think people might care that those who've worked closest with him don't support him any longer, but his voters know what they like and they don't like anyone he doesn't like.

If true astonishing in a Scottish marginal seat
The seat does contain Larkhall, one of the most mental places in Scotland, so could be a high watermark for Reform but also importantly, it would be very funny indeed.

There's way too much complacency in Scot Pol, like 'they would never win here' but people are as pissed off in Scotland as the RUK with the state of the country.
But Larkhall has a pretty small population compared to Hamilton. It can't be that influential on the result.

The idea that the media have “studiously ignored” the Epstein files is… not well connected to reality.

I think what we need is for Trump-Musk to get so acrimonious it actually turns reality inside-out so that they become friends again, and THEN they fall out again.

Just heard about this and is Trump is going to pull his support for Tesla ?

It may be popcorn to some but not those of us who are very concerned about the consequences

    And Reform disintegrating as well

Let's go back to the Blair and Cameron- Clegg years
Nigel seems to have done very well not to get too close to Elon Musk but not to piss him off.

I don't see Musk supporting Democratic candidates personally, but who knows?
Musk has suggested he could set up his own party

Musk, at least when it comes to politics, is phenomenally stupid.
Not necessarily. He can't setup a National Party overnight, but he could set up a party in enough key states to completely fuck the GOP, unless he gets deported...

One wonders what a straight fight between SNP and Reform would do for the independence debate.
Farage looks like a nationalist as Salmond did, Swinney looks like a mild mannered partner in an Edinburgh accountancy firm

15k ish on the electoral roll in Larkhall only, but we could be looking at sub 20k votes overall across the constituency.

I'm assuming they will get 3rd, Labour seem to believe they've got the vote out, and Farage is already bemoaning a lack of a ground operation.
