    I think the idea of May's supporters instigating a confidence vote is extraordinarily risky. The very fact of a vote happening could rapidly change the dynamic and mood against her. Triggering such a vote to benefit from the following year's immunity could be seen as gaming the party's rules. It would look unserious given the stage of the Brexit negotiations.

    I do not believe that even a walking holiday could induce May to such a foolhardy move.
