C4 news (who IIRC aren’t well thought of on here) dedicated a lot of time to antisemitism in Labour showing some of the debate and an interview with Margaret Hodge. So thought those who are concerned about it not getting a lot of coverage should know this.

At the very most they'd only be setting themselves against the 37.5% who actually voted Leave and even then it's not at all clear how many of those saw leaving the Customs Union as an essential part of Leaving the EU.
The 37.5% argument, the mark of a truly demented Remainer.
@Essexit You misunderstand me. I am not saying Leave didn't win the EU Ref; I was merely pointing out to GIN1138 that The Lords haven't set themselves against "the People", only against a sizeable proportion of the people (and who knows how many of the 37.5% were bothered about Customs Union or not - safe to say some at least would have wanted out of the EU but remain in the CU).

I am finding myself remarkably relaxed over Brexit. I am content that TM will get a deal possibly in some form of customs union and then we move on.

I am not hitting out at the Lords, it is their job, but they are a huge elite and are not elected so I expect even with their opposition a deal will happen.

Maybe I would like to be a bridge between leavers and remainers and for everyone to come together but, no doubt, I suppose most will say I am a dreamer

That debate disturbed both my wife and I and rarely, if ever, have we both been left in tears as we listened to Luciana Berger and Ruth Smeeth's statements and then they started sobbing over their utterly disgusting treatment. It was good conservative mps contributed and everyone (almost) standing to applaud both ladies raised the spirit and soul

It would be nice, but for a lot of people, this a conflict between the forces of light, represented by Jean Claude Juncker, and the forces of darkness, represented by Michael Gove.

But don't worry its only actual prole jobs in prole towns and not the 50,000 London banking jobs to be lost in the year after a Leave vote.

    I've bolded the key bit

War stories, however, have a habit of growing darker. For the same 58-year old senior Syrian doctor then adds something profoundly uncomfortable: the patients, he says, were overcome not by gas but by oxygen starvation in the rubbish-filled tunnels and basements in which they lived, on a night of wind and heavy shelling that stirred up a dust storm.

As Dr Assim Rahaibani announces this extraordinary conclusion, it is worth observing that he is by his own admission not an eyewitness himself and, as he speaks good English, he refers twice to the jihadi gunmen of Jaish el-Islam [the Army of Islam] in Douma as “terrorists” – the regime’s word for their enemies, and a term used by many people across Syria. Am I hearing this right? Which version of events are we to believe?

She thinks the USA is behind ISIS, and that the Chemical atack was staged to justify bombing.

The reason being that she cannot believe Muslims or Arabs would do such evils.

Isn't there supposed to be some statistic that essentially says a minimum of x will pick any option presented out of sheer bloody mindedness, no matter how terrible it is, even though you'd likely not get 1 in 100 for some opinions if you had them face to face?

I am with you on this story. Mrs May's smug put down of Corbyn using a half-truth, got a cheap laugh and animated a number of people on here, I thought it came across as disrespectful to the very people she had apologised to moments earlier. Not her finest hour.

I don't recall any conflict recently where Fisk has agreed with the Western position. He can always find some counter narrative or doubt. We'll know if/when the OPCW can properly do their job.

My point though is that that Doctor's opinion is being selectively spread, when the full article covers many opinions. A bit like with Lavrov and his selective revelation that BZ had been found in a sample, which was simply OPCW protocol not a contradiction of the finding that Novichok was in the real sample.

Agreed - it's why I think those saying Corbyn tactically was wrong to focus on Syria (however successfully or not) yesterday and the day before rather than Windrush were wrong, since this story seems like it could run for quite some time, since be it due to a terrible system or terrible policy, it will take time to resolve and there will be poignant stories to come.

Can you ascertain then ,what Robert Fisk position is ?

I don't recall any conflict recently where Fisk has agreed with the Western position. He can always find some counter narrative or doubt. We'll know if/when the OPCW can properly do their job.

My point though is that that Doctor's opinion is being selectively spread, when the full article covers many opinions. A bit like with Lavrov and his selective revelation that BZ had been found in a sample, which was simply OPCW protocol not a contradiction of the finding that Novichok was in the real sample.
    Much appreciated glw.

A friend gave me a single viagra some time ago, and I discovered it today whilst searching for my sun cream. My wife is away, and I was tempted to try it on a what the heck, but then bottled out......

Is viagra something one can take to see what happens? I’ve not researched it, but soemthing tells me there is wealth of experience on pbCOM.....

I said that I disagreed, politely. She is an old friend, and fled to Britain after the first Gulf War. She hates the Islamists, the Baathists and the USA more or less equally for destroying her homeland.

You're right, I honestly don't remember that one. Yeesh. I'm not going to pretend I didn't also think the Tories would win, but that's incredibly bullish even for a bullish paper.

10 hours on, I still can't believe 10% of Brits think we staged the chemical attack in Syria.

It is making me rather cross.

It's very weird, even for conspiracy theorists. I can imagine just about imagine Islamists doing it to try to get a reaction against Assad (and even that seems unlikely), but why would Britain even bother, however nefarious some people think we are??

Hadn't seen the ComRes poll in the podcast with the +1 Lab lead.
Maybe they are reading Robert Fisk the journalist on Douma https://www.aol.co.uk/news/2018/04/17/no-evidence-of-chemical-attack-in-douma-doctor/
But go to the source article for that and you see this:

Which version of events are we to believe?

    https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/syria-chemical-attack-gas-douma-robert-fisk-ghouta-damascus-a8307726.html

Be careful of reports that pick a sentence or two from a long article to spin a story, there has been a hell of lot of that going on recently.
"but by oxygen starvation in the rubbish-filled tunnels and basements in which they lived, on a night of wind and heavy shelling that stirred up a dust storm."

That sounds like bollocks to me; why would rubbish, wind, dust or shelling cause oxygen starvation? Fire, or displacement of air by a heavier gas, like CO2, would be the likely causes of hypoxia.

I think - ahoy @Firestopper if you are around.

There were 4 or 5 polls consecutively with Tory leads. That run ended at the end of March.

Will Republicans (particularly in the Senate) care?

That 10% of the country think we have a government and Prime Minister competent to pull of such a feat is just plain scary.

Also, some people like to think they see things that other, more naive, people don’t and that consequently they’re more savvy and informed about the world.

They start with that conclusion - how they’d like others to see them, and how they think about themselves - and then fit or create the facts to fit it after.

Here’s what was meant to happen. Jeremy Corbyn would stride into PMQs, lambast Theresa May for the appalling treatment of the Windrush generation, and watch her dissolve before his righteous glare into a puddle of remorse. Unfortunately, however, there was a very slight hiccup. “Yesterday,” snapped Mr Corbyn, “we learnt that in 2010 the Home Office destroyed landing cards for a generation of Commonwealth citizens. Did the Prime Minister – the then home secretary – sign off that decision?”

Labour frontbenchers licked their lips. I glanced down at Mrs May. She had a strange expression on her face. And it didn’t look like guilt. “No,” replied Mrs May crisply. “The decision to destroy the landing cards was taken in 2009 – under a Labour government.”

Without another word, she plumped herself back down. There was a split-second of startled silence. Then bedlam. Tories roared and pointed at Mr Corbyn, their bellows a mixture of relief, astonishment, derision and glee. Mr Corbyn stared blankly at his notes. His notes stared blankly back.

That -- Theresa May's triumph -- is indeed what is meant to have happened, but unfortunately it all unravelled within an hour as the details became murkier and murkier. Fortunately for the Prime Minister, a right-wing cabal at MI5 arranged a celebrity death to wipe the whole mess off the front pages while Amber Rudd set up some sort of appeals hotline.
