There are several councils across the United Kingdom whose names do not give you much of a clue as to where they are in the world. For instance, just where is Babergh in East Anglia, does anyone know where the Vale of the White Horse is, and of course Uttlesford.

    Oh that easy !

    And we can edit too

To change your profile pic, click on your own name, it'll bring up your profile, far right side, it says "Edit Profile", click that, then in the new tab, on the left hand side, it gives you a "Change my picture" option, and the rest is straight forward.

This system has quite a good back-door messaging system, too.

I am glad the comments are reading from top to bottom, far easier. Only downside I can see at the moment is that it is compulsory registration to post which may put off lurkers from getting involved.

Oldest at top better: because it gives a more natural way of reading, and when you refresh you come back to where you were (roughly) and can carry on reading down.

    Scott_PScott_P Posts: 51,453

This is better , not so stressful to read , follow and post .
    Re today's by elections .
Havering Gooshays , the Ratepayer's chances are lessened by the fact that there are 2 rival Ratepayer's partys contesting the byelection .
Islington Junction is technically an Independent ( elected as a Lib Dem ) defence as the resigning councillor left the Lib Dems following an internal party dispute over parking charges in the ward .
UKIP are contesting neither of the North Dorset wards . The Stours is a Con/Lab contest and Lodbourne Con/LD/Lab .

Ah, yes, the by-elections. I rarely say this (as by-elections arent our thing) but kinda hopeful of a 2nd place in Islington to help with positioning ahead of 2014.

What I really liked was the old disqus before they screwed it up. The reply function was excellent in linking comments together so that you could understand what was being responded to, the likes (and no dislikes) was good, and I came to terms with the page length eventually.

Such a shame they screwed up a reasonable product.

Thought I'd been cast into outer darkness there - posted a comment during the post-Disqus pre-Vanilla phase & not only did it disappear into the ether, I couldn't find a way to log in to Vanilla. But then there was one - many thanks Robert, Max, et al.

Newest / Oldest, as it appears to refresh to the point you were looking at in the thread, it is less worrying which you end up with.

I like newest first, but not major concern f the system handles you well, as it appears to. So far.

Oldest first for me : mainly use Mercury on an IPad, which has a go to bottom button.

I suspect the lack of a like button might encourage a bit more constructive criticism. The spammers never seem to be put off by the scores of dislikes, so they'll just carry on. Perhaps they'll need widgeting again?
